Please note the school is closed on Friday 2nd May for INSET and on Monday 5th May for the Bank Holiday.
This week in English we did a story plan, we are going to write a story as either Dick Mossop,Clem,Mother or Maggie Hoggs from the book children of winter. We have made a start on it but still have lots more do to.
In maths we have done lots of practice tests ready for the proper tests next week. We also revised on some maths questions such as fractions,decimals.percentages,multiplication.division and subtraction.Also remember that you can go on the website and follow the links for more practice tests.
In Welsh we have been learning the names of countries and different vocabulary to use when talking about holidays.
Today we started our safe cycling course,the safe cycling asseser came into check our helmets and bikes.Thankyou Mr Jackson! Don't forget to read you booklets at home to help you.
If you have not brought in your money for SS Great Britain please bring it in as soon as posible.All of the children are really looking forward to the trip.

This week we have done two tests, a maths test and a literacy test.We had one hour for the literacy and half and hour for the maths.I found the literacy easier than the maths.We have one more test,a maths reasoning test which is happening next Tuesday.
In maths we have started our investigation on World War 1 through maths. We watched a video about how WW1 began and wrote a paragraph including the main facts. We will continue with this next week, to find out more visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/0/ww1/
We went down to the ict suite in maths today and played on maths games.The reward was for doing so well in the maths test.
To link to our work on 'The Children of Winter', we have researched about the plague in 1665-1666.We found out many fantastic facts.Did you know that 15% of london was killed in the plague between 1665-1666 ? We have been practising our holiday vocab in welsh.Esi i i'r bortiwigal gyda teleu ac ffryindau.(I went to portugal with my family and friends)
In Science we learnt the parts of a female flower and a male flower and did a labelled diagram of one.We also planted a sunflower seed in our own pot, then put a bean in another pot but we were in partners for that.
For music we went on garage band and made a piece of music for part of the Lion King,Avatar and Balto.
We have split the class for p.e in half. One half did rounders\cricket and the other half did safe cycling, then we swapped.

We have had another busy and short week! In Science we labelled a plant and learnt about seed dispersal. Our beans are growing and will hopefully soon be quite tall!
We have made a Welsh comic strip using the Ipads about our visit to S.S Great Britain, they look great. Please look at our photos and work tab to see them.
In maths we have finished our 'maths through WW1' project. We learnt a lot about WW1 and why it started, it was really interesting and sad at the same time. We also used a wide range of maths skills.
In project we finished our work on the Victorians and updated our timeline.

Half term had come to an end which means its back to school for the staff and children of Mount Pleasant Primary.
Throught the week in English, we have been looking at persuasive text. We have recently been to SS Great Britain and have been busy designing and producing our own leaflet persuading someone to visit the ship. In the leaflet we have included alliteration,triplets,rhetorical questions,emotive language,puns,exaggeration and more.Some of us also started our SS Great Britain leaflet on the computer. These are now on our super display!!
PC Thomas visited on Friday to talk to us about the dangers of drugs. We learnt lots of facts about drugs and how they are very dangerous.
In maths we learnt about temperature and had to find the difference between temperatures.We also looked at problem solving.Mr Rothwell was getting us ready for Bassaleg.
Today was Eco day in school. We all wore green to support this and learnt about lots of ways to help the environment.
In Science, we have been learning about different plants in British Woodland. We researched plants on different layers and produced two fact cards about two plants. To continue this, we went outside to complete a plant survey using a hoop. We put the hoop down and then countd the different plants inside the area. This gave us lots of information about the types of plants in our school grounds.

This week in English we have been carying on with persuasive writing and have written a letter to someone trying to persuade them to do something.
In ICT we have carried on doing our world cup project in Welsh for Bassaleg.
In Maths we have had Year 6 maths booklets to fill in.The questions are based on what we have looked at this year. We had to make up a question, answer it, explain what we did and give a traffic light on how we have found the question throughout the year.
In Science we have looked at how plants make food.To start off, the sun warms up the tree ready for photosynthesis,water goes through the roots and the trunk into the leaves, the oxygen is blown away into the atmosphere and the carbon dioxide goes into the leaves surface.We also did a true or false sheet on photosynthesis.
We had a special visit from some of Bassaleg's science teachers on Monday. We looked at bottle rockets and the science behind it. We had 10-15 minutes to design the bottle and then went outside to test them, for safety we had to put glasses on.
