Newport A 25 Cardiff A 50

Our first midweek game of the season saw local rivals Cardiff make the short journey to Pill Harriers RFC. On a glorious Autumn evening, conditions were perfect for running rugby. Despite conceding 2 early tries, we didn't let our heads drop and continued to play in a positive manner. After a good passage of play involving many players it was speedster Theo who crossed for our first try. This was quickly followed by a second where his opposite number showed him the outside and he duly took it. Even better was to follow when Theo soon crossed for his hat trick powering over after good work by Will and Finn. Confidence was oozing at this point and it looked as though there was only one team in the game. However, the lead was quickly lost when soft tackling allowed Cardiff to level the scores. anec The next 5 minutes saw us concede 4 tries through a mix of quick Cardiff thinking and poor positioning by ourselves as we went into half time 35-15 down. After the break the game was pretty even with Cardiff adding to their lead with 3 quick scores. It was ourselves though who had the final say with 2 tries, firstly by Isaac after excellent work by Charlie and Miles and finally through Ollie in what was the last play of the game. It was another improved performance and the boys appear to be growing in confidence. Let's hope we build on it further and record our first win of the season in the cup match on Saturday against Merthyr.

Newport B 0 Cardiff B 50

The B team started the game strongly against Cardiff and spent a lot of the opening 10 minutes camped in the opposition half. A mixture of brave defence and sloppy play meant we were unable to cross the line for a deserved score. After weathering our early storm Cardiff hit back and controlled the game. They competed well at the breakdown giving us no platform to go forward and were very clinical in attack running out convincing winners. Plus points for the B's were strong carries by Jasper and Harri, while it was pleasing to see Madoc return after injury. We have a chance to put right some of our wrongs on Saturday when we face Merthyr B. A big thank you to Mr Nottley for giving up his time to referee this evening - much appreciated.

WE ARE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN! A big thank you to Mr Prewett from Mount Pleasant in getting us back online so soon while they were updating their site.
