Apologies for the absence of number bond cut out hands!  All ready to be given out at the end of the day, but unfortunately I've just returned from a meeting and have noticed that they're still on the chair!  They'll be sent home tomorrow :-)

Welcome back! I can't believe we've reached Spring Term already! The class settled in straight away and wrote some wonderful recounts of their Christmas break - it made very interesting reading!  Speaking of reading...we're currently bench marking the class (assessing the children's current reading levels)  to ensure that everyone is reading the correct book for their reading ability.  The assessment not only considers the child's ability to read/decode words, but also assesses their understanding of the content.  We've been astounded by the progress that everyone is making, and this is in no small part down to the daily reading that we know you're all doing at home. We'd like to say a very big thank you to you all for your continued support in this area.  Once we have benchmarked the whole class, their new reading books will be sent home.  These will be at a level that is lower than their current bench mark level as we want learners to enjoy their books and to focus on their fluency and comprehension.  Thanks for your patience!

As you all know, this term's topic is TOYS.  1M are writing their own Toy Story where the main character is their own favourite toy.  We'll be planning the stories carefully throughout the term, and our first task is to write a character description of the main character.  It would be lovely if the children could be allowed to bring in their chosen toy for our show and tell sessions.  With 32 children in the class, I will need to set up a rota, so on Friday, please check your child's class to see when they can bring their 'main character' in to share with everyone.  Thank you!

Discovery Club will be running every Tuesday dinner time for Years 1 and 2.  If you'd like to know more, click on the link provided by Mr Rothwell..

Discovery Club is not a school teacher run club therefore we will need you to notify us if your child is attending so we know that you have given permission for them to attend.

If you would like your child to be part of Discovery Club please following the instructions below

Monday 21st September Juniors (KS 2) @ 3.15 - 4pm

Lunchtime Tuesday 6th October - Foundation Phase YR1 and YR2

1M have our very own Twitter account.  I know that some of you are already following us, but there is a bit of a problem being able to find us via Google.  If you'd like to follow 1M, the best way is to click on one of the re-tweets on our School twitter account and to then follow us through that route.  Any queries, please feel free to pop in and see me at the end of the day.

Some of you may have seen the pictures of the children with their violins on our Class and School Twitter accounts.  1M are continuing with their tuition on a Wednesday morning with the wonderful Mrs Jeans-Wells.  Lots more photos will be posted in the Gallery soon, so that you can see the progress that they make through the year.

Wow - thank you to everyone who has helped their children post on the Topic Wall.  Love the enthusiasm - best response yet to a Topic Wall.  It's great reading about everyone's families and interests.  I have made some requests for sausage pie and cakes as these have come up in our follow-up conversations!

Just to let you know that our Physical Development days will be...Mondays and Wednesdays.  Lots of children came equipped with their kits today - Well Done!!  We decided not to tackle it this afternoon,  but hopefully by next week our sessions will be up and running (literally!).

A quick reminder - Only WATER is allowed in water bottles!  We cannot allow children to bring juice into the classroom or on the yard as it's our school policy.  Juice/Squash may be given as a lunch time drink, but cannot be drunk at any other time during our school day.  Thank you for your continued co-operation.

Next week we begin our guided reading carousel sessions.  One of the groups have an opportunity to read comics and magazines.  Can I make a pleas for any old/previously read comics and magazines that you may have in your homes? Cbeebies/Animal/Superhero type material would be perfect.  Thank you!

From next Thursday between 3.15pm and 4.15pm, I'll be running a Welsh club/choir for Years 1 and 2.  We'll be playing lots of Welsh lanugage games and learning a variety of Welsh songs.  The choir perform in the Bethesda carol concert, at Easter and take part in our Summer Extravaganza.  The games and songs consolidate the language patterns learnt in class and allow the children to use their Welsh in a fun environment.  There's a sign up form in the foyer, so I hope to see lots of Year 1's there!
