SPRING TERM IN YR6

# MATHS HOMEWORK ALFIE TEST FOR YEAR 5 27.2.15- CLICK THIS FOR THE LINK

W/B 5.1.15

We have had a very busy first week back!

On Monday in Maths we did problem solving to do with tally charts. Also we did Mode, Median. Mean and Range. In English we read a few more chapters of Street Child, also we practiced our story telling, with the street child story maps that we made. In the afternoon we carried on with our National Parks leaflets and put the reaserch that we did at home into our books.

Tuesday in maths we focused on the meaning of mode and watched a video about Mean, Median, Mode and Range. In English we read out our story maps infront of an audiance. In the afternoon we finished off our leaflets on National Parks. In welsh we all had a look at the Harri Morgan story and practiced reading it.

On Wednesday in maths we started planning an investigation for our own tally charts. In English we finished Street Child! We discused what we thought of the book and comared our thoughts with partners. We had a finishing off session, making sure all of our National Parks homework was in and the leaflets were done.

On Thursday in maths we finished off our investigation on tally charts and found out about median. In English we did a book review sheet on Street Child. In science we did a sheet about the liver.

On Friday in maths we looked at some videos on Mean Median Mode and Range, please see the webiste for links to these!

HALF TERM!

Weclome back after halt term! We hope you all had a well earned and needed break!

Monday-

In maths Miss Jenkins' maths group were finishing off area and perimeter questions on the 6 nations and in Miss Phillips's maths group did reasoning sheets.In English we did some work on thoughts and feelings of characters in our Hugo book. In guided reading we carried on with our welsh guided reading book and did activities about it. In science we did an investigation on lung capacity. We were trying to find out if taller people have a larger lung capacity.

Tuesday-

In maths Miss Jenkins maths group carried on with the 6 Nations work and Miss Philips group measured some lines that their partners drew. In English we started a plan for a train crash newspaper report that hapened in 1895. After lunch we wrote about the different variables our science and how to use them. Also we planned the invesigation. We all took part in the recitation competition for the Eisteddfod and 3 boys and 3 girls were chosen to go through to the next round, judged by Miss Medhurst and Mrs Luckwell. Well done to Elizabeth, Elin, Sophie, Iwan, Mason and Iker.

Wednesday-

In maths Miss Jenkins class found out about designing a sports centre, (that we would be doing on Friday.) In Miss Phillips group we played math bingo for most of the lesson! In English we read more of the book and found out about some of the early black and white films. After lunch, we began our scatter graph based on previous infomation from our results table.

Thursday-

In maths Miss Phillips group  looked at comparisons between 2 people, finding out what was different about them. In English we completed the Hugo Cabret book and discussed what we thought about it. Most people agreed they would recommend it to someone else to read. In Science we concluded our investigation and reported what we had found out.

Friday -

In Assembly we were told about social network safety.Therefore we had a shorter maths lesson, we talked about our #mathsfriday homework.In Miss Phillips group we ordered decimals.In English we finished off our newspaper articles.Then we started our 50 states spelling test which we had to learn.After lunch we will be doing Aboriginal art research and planning our own picture to illustrate an Aboriginal myth in the style of the Aboriginal artists. Hopefully we will get outside for some PE!

HAPPY ST DAVID'S DAY!

Well done to everyone from Year 6 who took part in our Eisteddfod. It was a huge success! It was lovely to see all of the amazing talent we have in our school. DA IAWN!!

We have now finished reading our book 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'. If you would like to find out more about this book, the author ( Brian Selznick) and his new book ,click the book below.

English

In English we have been planning and writing our own story with a secret waiting to be discovered, like in the novel we read. With Mrs Jones we did some Comprehension work about Jurassic Park.

Maths

In Maths we have been  working on an investigation for the six nations (go Wales!!) We also did a practice test to prepare us for the sorts of questions we would get in the real test in about 6 weeks time!.

Science

We have been learning about smoking and what is does to your body. Did you know that there are over 4,000 chemicals in one cigarette alone? Also over 114,00 people die a year from smoking. If you smoke then stop because you're affecting your life ahead of you .We had to give advice to Sid the Slob  to convince him about why he should stop smoking.

Art

In art with Mrs Jones we did a piece of art using only dots.It was to copy the style of art used by the Aboriginal people in Australia. Our paintings were to show how myths were interpreted long ago.

Ict

In ICT we have been learning all about weather and putting information into xl,graphs and diagrams.
