W/B 5.1.15

We have had a very busy first week back!

On Monday in Maths we did problem solving to do with tally charts. Also we did Mode, Median. Mean and Range. In English we read a few more chapters of Street Child, also we practiced our story telling, with the street child story maps that we made. In the afternoon we carried on with our National Parks leaflets and put the reaserch that we did at home into our books.

Tuesday in maths we focused on the meaning of mode and watched a video about Mean, Median, Mode and Range. In English we read out our story maps infront of an audiance. In the afternoon we finished off our leaflets on National Parks. In welsh we all had a look at the Harri Morgan story and practiced reading it.

On Wednesday in maths we started planning an investigation for our own tally charts. In English we finished Street Child! We discused what we thought of the book and comared our thoughts with partners. We had a finishing off session, making sure all of our National Parks homework was in and the leaflets were done.

On Thursday in maths we finished off our investigation on tally charts and found out about median. In English we did a book review sheet on Street Child. In science we did a sheet about the liver.

On Friday in maths we looked at some videos on Mean Median Mode and Range, please see the webiste for links to these!

We were trying to find out if taller people have a larger lung capacity.

Tuesday-

In maths Miss Jenkins maths group carried on with the 6 Nations work and Miss Philips group measured some lines that their partners drew. In English we started a plan for a train crash newspaper report that hapened in 1895. After lunch we wrote about the different variables our science and how to use them. Also we planned the invesigation. We all took part in the recitation competition for the Eisteddfod and 3 boys and 3 girls were chosen to go through to the next round, judged by Miss Medhurst and Mrs Luckwell. Well done to Elizabeth, Elin, Sophie, Iwan, Mason and Iker.

Wednesday-

HAPPY ST DAVID'S DAY!

Well done to everyone from Year 6 who took part in our Eisteddfod. It was a huge success! It was lovely to see all of the amazing talent we have in our school. DA IAWN!!

We have now finished reading our book 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'. If you would like to find out more about this book, the author ( Brian Selznick) and his new book ,click the book below.

English

In English we have been planning and writing our own story with a secret waiting to be discovered, like in the novel we read. With Mrs Jones we did some Comprehension work about Jurassic Park.

Maths

In Maths we have been  working on an investigation for the six nations (go Wales!!) We also did a practice test to prepare us for the sorts of questions we would get in the real test in about 6 weeks time!.

Science

We have been learning about smoking and what is does to your body. Did you know that there are over 4,000 chemicals in one cigarette alone? Also over 114,00 people die a year from smoking. If you smoke then stop because you're affecting your life ahead of you .We had to give advice to Sid the Slob  to convince him about why he should stop smoking.

Art

In art with Mrs Jones we did a piece of art using only dots. It was to copy the style of art used by the Aboriginal people in Australia. Our paintings were to show how myths were interpreted long ago.

Ict

In ICT we have been learning all about weather and putting information into xl,graphs and diagrams.
