Congratulations to Jessica Grime and Ffion Jones for their amazing performances at Saturday's Eisteddfod 'cylch' - the first round of the Urdd National Eisteddfod.  They competed against several other Welsh learners from schools all over Newport and the surrounding areas in the recitation category.  Their confident and word perfect performances won them first and second place on the stage - which means they're both through to the next round - the County Eisteddfod.  We are very proud of you both.

You may have noticed that fairly recently we had a visit from a certain 'Mr Urdd' - pictures to be seen on the Criw Cymraeg webpage!

Following on from his visit, several children have become members of the Urdd through the after school clubs with which they're involved - choir, football and rugby.

As members of the Urdd we have the opportunity to compete against other schools throughout the year in various sports competitions, cooking competitions and in the largest Youth competition of all, the National Eisteddfod.

The Urdd is one of the largest Youth movements in Europe and we at Mount Pleasant Primary want to give our children this fantastic opportunity to become involved in all that it has to offer.

Our school eisteddfod this year is based on the syllabus that the Urdd Eisteddfod has produced - that way, all the fantastic work that the children create can be forwarded to compete against work from other schools.

Rehearsals for soloists, choirs, dancers and other musicians are well under way - click on the gallery to see how we're getting on!

Please take a look at the Home Project link too where everyone has an opportunity to create a fantastic 3D model based on the set topic - Growing and Thriving. The winning entrees will be forwarded to the County Eisteddfod, and if they're successful there then they'll be entered into the National Eisteddfod.  How amazing would it be for pupils from our school to have their 3D work displayed for the whole of Wales?

I hope you'll take some time to click on the links and become as enthusiastic as our pupils are about the Urdd Eisteddfod.

And here's the first one....a link to all the information you'll need about the National Eisteddfod in Caerphilly
