Creativity is encouraged and celebrated at Mount Pleasant, with many children actively engaging in the creative curriculum during lessons, after school clubs and when pursuing their own learning at home.
Creativity encompasses both art and design and music and drama, whilst complementing the literacy and numeracy framework. For example, discussion when composing and appraising a painting or piece of work, develops childrens oracy and self esteem, helping them to reach agreements within a group, or to put across a differing point of view succinctly.
Collaborating with children in their class and across the age ranges in after school clubs, develops childrens well being, encouraging mutual respect and tolerance, whilst working towards a shared goal.
The creative talents of children are celebrated throughout the year, particularly during special performances such as Good News Assembly, Class Assemblies, Open Afternoons, Christmas Productions, Choir Performances, the Eisteddfod and Music Extravaganza to name but a few!
Opportunities to enrich and develop childrens interests outside the classroom environment include the many after school clubs available, such as Key Stage 2 Choir, Welsh Folk Dancing, Clwb Cor Cymraeg, Sewing Club and Craft Club.
A significant number of children partake in the peripetetic music lessons available, including woodwind, brass, strings, guitar, percussion and keyboard. Most recently, children in Reception have been introduced to stringed percussion as a whole class music project. Similar workshops will be available throughout the year for children to experience music from a range of cultures and traditions.
We are busy developing our creative gallery to promote the talents of children at Mount Pleasant.
